Text Exercise Chat
The Text Exercise Chat provides guidance when you are working on a text-based exercise — such as writing an essay, answering open-ended questions, or structuring an argument.
How to Access It
While working on a text exercise in Artemis, click the floating Iris icon in the bottom-right corner of the screen, just like for programming exercises.
What Iris Sees
In a text exercise context, Iris has access to:
- Problem statement — the full exercise description and what is expected of your submission
- Your current submission — the text you have written so far
This allows Iris to give feedback that is specific to your work and the exercise requirements, without you needing to paste anything manually.
How Iris Helps
Iris can assist with text exercises in several ways:
- Structuring your response — if you are unsure how to organize your answer, Iris can suggest an outline or structure.
- Strengthening your argument — Iris can point out where your reasoning could be clearer or where you might add supporting evidence.
- Clarifying the question — if you are not sure what the exercise is asking, Iris can help you break down the requirements.
- Improving clarity — Iris can highlight areas where your writing could be more concise or precise.
As with programming exercises, Iris will not write the answer for you. It guides you toward improving your own work through questions and suggestions.
Iris provides learning support, not a writing service. Your submission should always be your own work. See How Iris Helps You Learn for more on the pedagogical approach.
