Privacy Statement
The Technical University of Munich (TUM) takes the protection of personal data seriously.
This statement covers this documentation website only. It is a purely static website with no user accounts, no login and no upload facility. It processes no study, submission or examination data. Ares 2 itself is a software library that runs on the infrastructure of the institution deploying it; that institution is the controller for its processing, not this website. For the Artemis learning platform, the Artemis privacy statement applies.

Purposes and legal bases for the processing
The purpose is the publication of the technical documentation for Ares 2 in fulfilment of the public duties assigned to us by the legislator in teaching and research. Unless otherwise stated, the legal basis is Art. 6(1)(e) GDPR in conjunction with Art. 4(1) BayDSG (performance of a task carried out in the public interest). In addition, Art. 84 Bayerisches Hochschulinnovationsgesetz (BayHIG) applies.
Hosting and logging
This website is not operated on TUM servers. It is served through GitHub Pages:
GitHub, Inc., 88 Colin P. Kelly Jr. Street, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA,
a Microsoft Corporation company.
When you open a page, your browser transmits technically necessary connection data to GitHub's servers, where it is logged. This typically includes:
- the IP address of the requesting computer
- the date and time of access
- the name and URL of the retrieved file and the access status
- the volume of data transferred
- browser and operating system identification, if transmitted by your browser
- the referring page, if transmitted by your browser
This logging is carried out by GitHub as part of operating the hosting service. We do not receive or evaluate these log files and can therefore give no undertaking of our own about their retention. What GitHub processes, and on what basis, is set out in its own notices. A transfer to a third country (the USA) takes place. GitHub relies for this on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses and on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. For details please see the GitHub privacy statement the GitHub cookie notice and the notes on GitHub Pages.
If you wish to avoid this transfer, you can build the documentation locally from the repository and read it offline.
Cookies and local storage
This documentation application sets no cookies of its own, neither technically necessary ones nor any for tracking or advertising, and it integrates no reach measurement and no web analytics. What GitHub may process as the hosting provider is governed by its own notices, linked above.
Your preference for the light or dark appearance is stored in your browser's local storage
(localStorage). It never leaves your device and is transmitted to no server. You can delete it
at any time through your browser settings.
Search
The search runs entirely in your browser. The search index is fetched from this site like any other file, and the matching happens locally: your search terms are not transmitted to any server and are not logged. No external search service is embedded.
Third-party content
No third-party content is loaded: no external fonts, no content delivery networks, no embedded videos, no social media elements. Every file is served from the same host as the page itself.
The site contains links to external services such as GitHub, Maven Central and TUM web pages. Following one of them takes you off this site, and the privacy terms of the respective provider then apply.
Retention
In connection with your visit to this website, the TUM itself stores no personal data. GitHub is responsible for the retention of the log data arising there.
Your rights
Insofar as we process personal data from you, you are entitled to the following rights as a data subject:
- the right of access to the data stored about you (Art. 15 GDPR)
- the right to rectification of incorrect personal data (Art. 16 GDPR)
- the right to request deletion or restriction of processing, where the legal requirements are met (Art. 17 and 18 GDPR)
- where applicable, the right to data portability (Art. 20 GDPR)
- the right to revoke consent at any time with effect for the future
You have the right to object to the processing of your data at any time on grounds relating to your particular situation, if the processing is carried out on the basis of Art. 6(1)(e) GDPR (Art. 21(1)(1) GDPR).
Right to lodge a complaint with the supervisory authority
You have the right to lodge a complaint with the Bavarian State Commissioner for Data Protection:
